Special Areas Curriculum

DRAMA

Students in Preschool through Grade 5 attend a Drama class once per week. In this class, they learn the basics and history of Theater as well as performing skills, technical theatre, and improvisation. They are challenged to express themselves and use their imagination through activities and exercises. In addition, students can expand their skills through Extracurricular Activities by auditioning for the SJV Players (Grades 6 - 8) or the SJV Junior Players (Grades 4 and 5).

MUSIC

The Music program at St. John Vianney Catholic School introduces students to various aspects of music, and a variety of composers, instruments, and performance techniques. All students gain performance experience each year by participating in the greatly anticipated Christmas Program. Students wishing to pursue further music study may audition for Band and/or Choir each year where they will have an opportunity to perform for the school community at PTO and Diocesan events, local charitable and community events, at Walt Disney World Resort and at the annual St. John Vianney Catholic School Spring Concert.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical education is an integral part of the educational program at St. John Vianney, and is a part of every student's schedule. The primary focus of our P.E. program is to reinforce the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle while learning the values of respect, teamwork and sportsmanship. Students enjoy a variety of age-appropriate activities conducive to the development of their personal health, fitness and safety.

SPANISH

Students in PreK3 to Sixth Grade learn Spanish through daily immersion in St. John Vianney School’s Dual Language program. In grades 7th to 8th, students receive weekly instruction in Spanish vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and speaking.

STEM

STEM is the integration of science, technology, engineering and math to create a student-centered learning environment. Students have the opportunity to understand the ins and outs of a computer, explore coding, filming, engineering and the design process, and learn about cyber civics and how STEM affects our everyday lives.

VISUAL ARTS

The study of Art facilitates the expression of ideas, beauty, and emotion. The Visual Arts curriculum at St. John Vianney Catholic School provides instruction on art history, various art techniques, and 2D and 3D art using multiple media. The upper grades also produce oral and written reports and projects. SJVS students participate in the Diocesan Art Show every year, in addition to a “Celebration of the Arts Day” within the St. John Vianney School community.
