The Guidance Department leads large and small group classroom programs for Kindergarten through 8th grade students that focus on issues such as friendship, self-esteem, study skills, respect for self and others, leadership, stress management and conflict resolution. Personal safety classes are taught at all grade levels every year as mandated by the Diocese. Our two guidance counselors also provide individual, short-term counseling and small group counseling, meet with and welcome all new students to St. John Vianney, train peer mediators and monitor student mediation sessions, consult with parents on a variety of student issues and provide a monthly newsletter on a variety of parenting issues.
Academic Support Team may assist students who are struggling at or below grade level. The team consists of a teacher, co-teacher, guidance, parents, and administration leader. This team is to assist teachers with the interventions needed in the classroom for student success. This team will also provide extended time for standardized testing.
