Our History
On January 25, 1962, St. John Vianney Catholic School opened with grades 1-4 under the leadership of Mrs. Marie Zinell and three laywomen. On August 24, 1963, the school moved into a new phase of its development under the leadership of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. For over fifty years the school has undergone many changes to meet the spiritual and academic needs of its students in a diverse world. St. John Vianney Catholic School has grown from a four-room school to a twenty-one room building with an expansive campus shared with St. John Vianney Parish.
1962
St. John Vianney Catholic School opens with grades 1-4 under the leadership of Mrs. Marie Zinell and three laywomen.
1963
Sisters of St.Francis of Philadelphia assume leadership of the school. By 1964, SJVS enrolls 575 students.
1993
Sr. Elizabeth Murphy transitions from teacher to principal—strategically leading SJVS for the next 21 years.
1999
This year marks the exciting completion and opening of the SJV Community Center and Gym where school sporting events, physical education classes, school-wide and parish events fill the calendar every year.
2002
SJVS celebrates the opening of a new science lab and preschool classrooms.
2005
SJVS receives the National Blue Ribbon School recognition.
2012
SJVS celebrates 50 years of academic and spiritual excellence in education.
2014
Sr. Elizabeth establishes SJVS scholarship and legacy funds, and retires as principal.
2017
Under the visionary leadership of Principal Ms. Cathy Marshall, SJVS partners with Boston College and UCF becoming the first dual language school in the Diocese of Orlando.
2018
SJVS initiates STREAM inquiry-based learning projects, refreshes its logo and gathers with Fr. Tom to bless the new soccer field and state-of-the-art scoreboard.
